Sir Tim Rice

Sir Tim Rice has been a long-standing Patron of the Dame Vera Lynn Trust and became a Vice-President in 2005.
We were delighted that he attended our ‘Celebration Dinner’ at the Imperial War Museum on 10 October 2009 and gave a wonderful after-dinner speech.
Sir Tim Rice was born on 10 November 1944 in Buckinghamshire.
Tim Rice abandoned his law studies to join EMI, which led to his writing lyrics to Andrew Lloyd Webber's music. Their first collaboration was Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in 1968
Further successful musicals for the Rice - Lloyd Webber team included Jesus Christ Superstar (1971) and Evita (1978).
Other Tim Rice hits were Chess (1984) written to the music of Benny and Bjorn of Abba, and the lyrics for The Lion King to music by Elton John.
Tim Rice won the Best Original Song Oscar and The Golden Globe in 1993 for 'A Whole New World' (music by Alan Menken) from the film Aladdin.
Tim Rice was knighted in 1994. He is the co-author of the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles and a co-founder of Pavilion Books.
Sir Tim Rice is a cricket fanatic who was President of the MCC from 2002 to 2003. He also owned racehorses with Tom Marshall.
