School for Parents - Suffolk

The Dame Vera Lynn Trust School for Parents Suffolk working in partnership with families to educate the young child with motor learning difficulties.  We were established in April 2000 and registered in March 2002 as a Charity. In October 2010 we became part of the Dame Vera Lynn Trust for Children with Cerebral Palsy and operate alongside the School for Parents West Sussex.

School for Parents Suffolk provides an holistic form of early education inspired by the Conductive Education methods used at the Peto Institute of Conductive Education in Budapest, Hungary. We believe that this form of education is designed to stimulate and awaken the child’s senses and encourage self-awareness through activities and experiences that are fun for both children and their parents.

Our specially trained staff work together in groups of up to six children with their parent/carer during weekly sessions. Each session last approximately two and a half hours including a short break.

The sessions are carefully planned to involve the children in active learning programmes that address all aspects of their development i.e. physical, social, emotional and cognitive. A theme is chosen to motivate the children and make these sessions fun. Each session includes play, songs, art and craft, drama and movement.

The School for Parents is led by the Head of Early Years, Alison Stonham and her dedicated team.  The safeguarding and welfare of all children is paramount to our organisation.

The Dame Vera Lynn Trust School for Parents Suffolk have successfully achieved the Young Suffolk Quality Standards Award in recognition of all the hard work and commitment of the staff in the service they provide.
